First Listen: Baltimore's New Z104.3 vs. Mix 106.5

It was the format change that was so obvious that it only took six years. Top 40 fans expected Clear Channel to take Baltimore’s 104.3 FM from Classic Rock to Smooth Jazz in 2003. They got their hopes up again last year, only to have the station choose gold-based Alternative as WCHH (Channel 104.3). So it was inevitable in this up cycle for Mainstream Top 40 that Clear Channel would finally launch, as it did today at Noon, the new Z104.3. It’s the third round for Top 40 on the frequency that most notably housed WBSB (B104) from 1980-92. Read more

Dene Hallam In Intensive Care

We’re very sad to report that veteran radio programmer Dene Hallam is in intensive care in Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and his prognosis is reportedly not good. Hallam has been with the Moby In The Morning Network for the past two and a half years, and members of his work family are with him at the hospital. Moby says Hallam has been unresponsive for several days, and that a priest conducted Catholic last rites on Thursday night. Read more

Hip-Hop KDHT “Hot 93.3” Austin is gone

Emmis fired the entire on air staff and began stunting on Wednesday, Nov. 18. .A new format is expected to debut this Friday, and some are speculating it will be Spanish while others are saying Talk. This morning’s Taylor on Radio-Info, the daily newsletter from Radio-Info.com, reports that the move out of the Hip-hop heavy rhythmic format was a move possibly prompted by the arrival of Arbitron’s PPM meter in mid 2010.
