A Congressman demands the FCC investigate an Upstate New York station over tower health concerns
Some residents in the town of Floyd, New York claimed they were getting sick from alleged radiation emissions from the WOKR-FM (93.5). The FCC followed up, but said there was no problem. An FCC spokesperson told WKTV-TV “the RF emitted from the antennas is well under the acceptable limit and at this time, there is no plan to investigate.” However, Rep. Michael A. Arcuri is demanding the FCC take action. He says “It is unacceptable that the FCC has taken this long to respond to the requests of so many to investigate the radio tower in Floyd … there is no time to waste in remedying this issue and I will continue to pressure the FCC for action.” Arcuri adds he will hold public hearings if necessary. The Observer-Dispatch newspaper says some residents near the tower have complained the 3,000 watt gospel-music station comes through their radio on other frequencies than 93.5 FM, and some nearby residents have become ill.
