A contract dispute could keep San Diego's XX Sports Radio morning team off the air
Are “Scott and BR” possibly headed to Clear Channel classic rocker KGB-FM (101.5)? The message left on the XEPRS-AM (1090) “XX Sports” website says it all – “We are very sorry to inform you that Scott and BR will not be on the air until a dispute is resolved.” Local Media of America President & CEO John T. Lynch blames the stalemate between management and morning hosts Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith on their desire to break their contract prior to its end in 2012. Lynch says “agreements with both Scott and BR remain in full force and effect, and their attempted early termination is in violation of their agreements.” Ratcheting this a step further, the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper reports the station has started legal action “in an effort to protect its legal rights and enforce its agreements with them.” It is believed a third-party may be involved. Both Kaplan and Smith, a former Chargers linebacker, have been on XEPRS for the last seven years hosting mornings. The duo says on their website, “Truth is, not sure we will ever be on 1090 again .. we are very confident we will be on the radio in SD within the next few weeks.” The San Diego Board of Radio-Info.com is very interested in the Scott & BR KGB-FM story.
