A copper thief knocks two Kansas stations off the air
Police in Cherokee County, Kansas are investigating the theft of copper from a radio tower that knocked two radio stations off the air. Non-commercial KRPS (89.9) and country KKOW (96.9) were both silenced. KRPS was able to return to the air at reduced power. The good news for police was they did not have to look far for the copper culprit. Police responded to a call of a theft in progress at a home in Columbus, Kansas. When they arrived, they found the owner of the home holding the suspect at gunpoint. A search of the suspect's vehicle uncovered copper wiring suspected of being from the radio tower. The 39-year old suspect is being held in Cherokee County Jail, with felony charges of theft and property damage pending. The Joplin Globe details the story here.
