A Florida judge limits damages in a case against Beasley's WRXK

justice A judge rules that a woman seeking damages in a defamation case against WRXK-FM, Ft. Myers (96.1) cannot seek punitive damages in the case. The judge also ruled that the woman's attorney cannot use an expert in radio standards for their case. The case brought by a woman listed as "Jane Doe" stems from comments made former "K-Rock" morning host Joe Scott. He called the woman who was his longtime girlfriend a "prostitute," "thief," "drug user" and other names during daily on-air rants, despite pleas from the woman to stop. The suit claims that Beasley Broadcast Group, which was also named in the case, hired Scott in 2005 to replace the syndicated Howard Stern despite knowing he had an alleged history of drug abuse and was in rehab at the time of his hiring. The suit claims he went on the air and defamed the woman "while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication." Scott was fired a year later when he failed to show up for work for three days. Nine months later he collapsed and died in his home. Scott was only 46. You can read more about the case against WRXK here.
