A gunman is arrested for taking hostages at CBC Radio in Calgary

A man entered the offices, and brandished a gun. He soon took hostages, prompting a five-hour standoff on Sunday morning with local authorities and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Police tell the Calgary Herald that the man, described as distraught and in his 70’s, went to the station to have them publicize a disagreement he has with a former employer. The man would later surrender peacefully, leaving his hostages unharmed. His identity was not revealed. Charges, which could include kidnapping, are pending. Although the gunman never made it to the broadcast studio, programming on CBC Radio in Calgary was halted, and the station ran CBC programming from Saskatchewan instead.
