A newsman in Somalia is attacked and murdered
Radio Daljir news reporter Abdullahi Omar Gedi becomes the third radio staffer killed in war-torn Somalia this year, and the second in August. Gedi had just left the station in Galkayo when he was attacked by a group of men who stole his cellphone and stabbed him six times. Gedi died while in route to an area hospital. It was only one week ago that Mogadishu’s Hurma Radio station director Barkhat Awale was shot while repairing equipment on the roof of the radio station, in the midst of a battle between African troops and al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab militants. Gedi was just 25.
