A North Carolina college accuses another school of harassing it, to gain its FM license
The station is adult alternative/variety WSGE, Dallas, NC (91.7), which failed to handle an inspection request for its public file in a satisfactory manner. It allegedly required the visitor to talk with its attorney, who advised him to leave the campus or face arrest. The visitor also claims the file was missing various issues/programs lists and the required FCC how-to handbook named “The Public and Broadcasting.” But WSGE licensee Gaston College claims the visitor was “hostile.” And that the FCC should “view the complaint in the context of its past dealing with the complainant’s employer, Columbia Bible College.” Gaston alleges that the Bible College previously tried to acquire the station, and later engaged in “a pattern of harassment and intimidation” with the goal of inducing it to sell. In the matter of the complaint, the FCC agrees to reduce a previously-issued $10,000 public-file fine to $8,000. Read the FCC’s Forfeiture Order here.
