A number of radio people are trying their luck in the political arena
In Wilmington, North Carolina, Mayor Bill Saffo has two challengers this year as he runs for reelection. One is the owner of a tattoo & body piercing business. The other is Paul Knight, the VP/GM for Sea-Comm Media, which owns four stations in the Wilmington area. Knight, a Republican, believes there’s too much “special interest” involved in local politics. In Yakima, Washington, KIT-AM (1280) morning host Dave Ettl is putting his money where his mouth is, and will temporarily leave the airwaves to run for the Yakima City Council. In Detroit, former TV reporter and WJLB-FM (97.9) reporter Charles Pugh is running for City Council. Pugh, who is openly gay, says he decided to run for office because he feels Detroit residents “need someone who takes the job of public servant seriously, and who will not embarrass you.”
