A Radio New Zealand editor is beaten to death in broad daylight
Police in Wellington, New Zealand are investigating the death of a Radio New Zealand news editor who died after being assaulted on a public street near a church. It is alleged that 43-year old Phillip Cottrell was walking home following his overnight shift at Radio New Zealand when an altercation took place. Cottrell was severely beaten, and died following emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain, according to the New Zealand Herald. Police have a description of the individual they believe was involved in the attack on Cottrell, who was discovered unconscious by a passerby. His wallet appeared to be missing. Cottrell formerly worked for BBC Radio Scotland in Glasgow before moving to New Zealand in 2006.
