A three-way country battle in Syracuse, with a new "Wolf" and a "New Country"
Syracuse went from one country FM – long-dominant “B104.7” WBBS – to three, all on Friday afternoon. At 4pm, Foxfur Communications (Craig Fox, Sam Furco) flipped their recently-acquired WVOA-FM, De Ruyter to country “Wolf 105.1.” Their target: Clear Channel’s WBBS. And who had Foxfur bought WVOA-FM from? Clear Channel’s Aloha Station Trust. That was a big enough surprise. But then came a bigger one: Clear Channel turned off urban AC “Power 106.9” WPHR, Solvay, New York…and morphed it into “New Country”, to block the new “Wolf.” There’s a lot of country listening in Syracuse: WBBS posted a 14.2 share, age 12+ AQH share, in the most recent Arbitron ratings available, from Spring of last year. The Syracuse-Utica Board of Radio-Info is talking about the new three-way battle, here.
