After six years of disputes, Qantum buys its fourth FM in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida
In 2003, Frank Osborn had a $3 million deal with Star Broadcasting to acquire the Class A at 98.1 licensed to Holt, Florida. Then Cumulus offered Star a better deal and the lawyers got busy. This week, Osborn tells the Connecticut Post newspaper “We are grateful that multiple courts vindicated our position.” No price announced for the 2009 agreement. But there will definitely be a format change, away from sports. Last month, Star Broadcasting pulled the “Ticket” sports format known as WTKE off of 98.1 and put it on its 100.3, swapping call letters so that 98.1 is now known as WRKN. Qantum’s other stations in Ft. Walton Beach-Destin are rhythmic “Fly 92” WFFY, classic hits “Wave 102.1” WWAV and hot AC “Mix 103.1” WMXZ.
