Ando Media defends its new online metrics like "Session Starts"

Senior VP Patrick Reynolds tells a Wednesday afternoon webinar “We've added new metrics, not thrown any away”, meaning the familiar Average Quarter Hour and cume figures. But online radio measurement company Ando intends to keep promoting its three new statistics, because they are “more meaningful in a digital world” than terrestrial radio terms. Ando encountered resistance from some customers even before last Friday’s release of the May, June, July, August and September ratings for online radio. Reynolds says they've been meeting regularly with customers and will continue to produce the new monthly webinars, partly to explain the new metrics. Those are “Session Starts” (defined as “the number of streams of one minute or more that are started in a time period”). “Average Active Sessions.” And “ATSL”, or Average Time Spent Listening.
