Another smooth jazz station goes out – San Francisco's KKSF (103.7)
It was a ground-breaking station in the days when the format was often called “New Age/Jazz” or “New AC.” But it hasn’t shown as strongly in the Arbitron PPMs, and it tied for 15th place (age 6+) in the March People Meter book. Monday afternoon, Clear Channel replaced it with a classic rock station named “The Band 103.7.” Since early 2008, the smooth jazz format has lost major-market outposts in markets such as Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, Houston and Denver. Check the new “Band” website. The Smooth Jazz Board at Radio-Info.com is discussing what happened with KKSF.
