Anti-Semitic "Hitler" remarks are the latest problem for Radio Globo in Honduras
First, the station was shut down following an order of the military government, after the coup that forced President Manuel Zelaya from power. Now, the pro-Zelaya Radio Globo, which is broadcasting on the Internet due to that closure, is facing a different brand of trouble. Radio Globo director David Romero on the air blamed “Israeli involvement” for his nation’s problems, saying “I believe it should have been fair and valid to let Hitler finish his historic vision.” That remark drew outrage from US Ambassador Hugo Llorens, who fired off a letter to the owner of Radio Globo, saying “Mr. Romero’s commentary makes a mockery of any pretense he may have of solidarity with people who struggle against injustice.” The comments came after the Spanish publication ElPais.com interviewed Zelaya, who claimed “Israeli mercenaries are torturing him with high-frequency radiation,” and blamed Israel for allegedly backing the military government.
