Arbitron is sending 1,000 solar powered radios to Haiti
Arbitron is partnering with radio manufacturer Eton Corporation to send the solar powered-crank, multi-function radios to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Arbitron President & CEO Bill Kerr says, “Radio is the lifeline keeping Haitians informed and connected during this tragedy. We felt it was important to ensure that they had access to this necessary resource.” Radio has had to improvise since the devastating earthquake. Radio Caribe has been broadcasting from the street in Port-au-Prince after its building was pulverized, and the US Air Force is flying a C-130 plane equipped with radio equipment to broadcast news and information daily. All Haitian radio stations either lost power or were destroyed by the earthquake.
