Arbitron's PPM powers TV ratings in Canada's electronic markets, radio ratings in 5 big markets
Arbitron says the result, administered by Canada’s BBM consortium of broadcasters and other users, is “the world’s largest combined TV and radio media measurement panel”, and it’s keyed to the People Meter device pioneered by Arbitron. As Arbitron CEO Michael Skarzynski says, “the PPM technology is designed to measure exposure to all audible media.” He also notes that it’s “language-agnostic”, an important thing in language-rich Canada. The PPM technology will measure both radio and TV in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary, and radio only in Edmonton. For TV, the Arbitron meter replaces the BBM’s previous Mark II system, which was wired to panel members' television sets. The BBM says about 9,000 people are now carrying PPM devices in Canada. Read the BBM’s own release, here.
