As many as four stations vie for the Minnesota Twins broadcast rights

Minnesota Twins

The team has a new stadium, a long-term contract with their star player, and the next step for the Minnesota Twins may be a new flagship radio station. Hubbard Broadcasting-owned KSTP-AM (1500) has been the home of the Twins since 2007, when the team left WCCO-AM (830) after more than 45 years. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that CBS Radio-owned WCCO-AM could be one of four radio stations vying for the rights to be the Twins flagship. KSTP would like to retain the rights, and another contender is Clear Channel’s all-sports KFAN-AM (1130), which has the rights to the Minnesota Vikings. The newspaper also says there’s a dark horse radio station that could be in the mix – Top-40 KHTC-FM (96.3), which is owned by the Pohlad family, the same family that owns the Twins. KSTP pays about $1 million annually for the broadcast rights, a figure that is expected to increase. You can read the Star-Tribune report here.
