"Assuming political positions" is one reason why 200 radio stations in Venezuela are being silenced

There are 970 radio stations in Venezuela, and over 200 are about to be silenced by the government of President Hugo Chavez. Venezuela Infrastructure Minister Diosdado Cabello told a weekend news program that there was “polarization over media coverage,” and he also accused some media company owners of “assuming political positions.” Cabello also claimed a reason for yanking the licenses of these radio stations is because of multiple ownership, claiming, “to have one radio station is a privilege but to have 40 is an abuse,” and adds, “there are 970 stations … many with with same licensees since 20-30 years. That situation has to change,” according to the report by VHeadline.com. The government is planning on taking over 154 FM & 86 AM stations, a plan Chavez has called a “media war” with private media companies.
