At WGN-AM (720) the question is – who will Mike McConnell replace
When Tribune-owned WGN-AM (720) put out a press release Monday night confirming the rumors about Cincinnati’s WLW-AM (700) mid-morning host Mike McConnell moving to the Windy City, the three biggest questions were: “when,” and “will Bill Cunningham be coming too” as well as “who'se slot will McConnell take?” The first question was answered in the Tribune press release, saying McConnell will start August 9. Cunningham’s status is uncertain, but his debut on a pilot TV talk show is slated for a nationwide test at the end of this month. The Tribune press release says “His timeslot on WGN will be announced in the coming months.” However, John Kiesewetter reports in the Cincinnati Enquirer that McConnell may have spilled the beans, saying he “debuts 9 a.m. August 9 on WGN-AM,” the slot currently held by John Williams. There is no word out of the Tribune camp as to whether Williams will stay or go, or if any other schedule changes will happen when McConnell arrives.
