BBC Radio's Chris Evans apologizes for a racist Twitter remark

Chris Evans

The popular BBC Radio 2 morning host found himself on the receiving end of scorn after a recent message he left on his Twitter page. Talking about the “vuvuzela,” the very loud trumpets people have been blowing during World Cup games in South Africa, Evans posted, “You give an African £2 a month and what do they do? Buy a bloody trumpet.” After receiving complaints about his comment, he posted an apology on Twitter, a site where he has over 85,000 followers. Evans Tweeted, “Never meant to offend. Not funny at all,” and followed that up with “Sticking with my not funny verdict.” The “vuvuzela” horns have become a hot topic at the World Cup due to the loud noise tens of thousands can make at the same time. The U.K.’s BBC-TV is even considering broadcasting games with the horn sound removed. You can read Evans' Twitter page here.
