Black journalists' group says N-word should be added to list of "7 dirty words"
Kathy Times of the National Association of Black Journalists notes that Dr. Laura apologized for the now-famous August 10 broadcast. Dr. Laura made that apology on her blog the next day, as you can see here. But Kathy Times says “She does not have the right to use racial slurs on public airwaves” – even to discuss language and what those words mean. Times calls on syndicator Premiere Radio Networks to address “the deeper issues, and says "why wait until the next on-air personality slips up?” The FCC has never claimed the legal authority to regulate speech involving racial or other slurs, unless they involve indecency or obscenity. The statement by NABJ President Kathy Times is here.
