Black radio pioneer Dr. Wendell Cox dies in Detroit

Dr. Cox shared a dream with his father-in-law and dental partner - to give Detroit's African-American community its own station. They achieved that in 1956 with WCHB. The team eventually added an FM that did jazz - originally WCHD and now WJZZ. Their Bell Broadcasting combo was eventually acquired by Radio One in 1998, and now the Detroit Free Press says Dr. Cox has died, at 92. Read the Free Press obituary here.
