California talkhosts Armstrong & Getty claim Doug Stephan ripped off their calls
From this morning’s TRI Newsletter: A fan of Armstrong & Getty’s emails them to say “I happened to be up early this morning and I had my radio on the [syndicated] Doug Stephan Show on 910 KNEW when I was surprised to hear a caller in to the show that sounded surprisingly similar to a caller I had heard on your show.” He says “After digging into it a bit, I discovered he used several callers from your 7-23-2010 7am hour who had called in regarding the Bell, California issue.” He even supplied the podcast references. Armstrong & Getty talked about the strange occurrence on the air, and started taking calls. Eventually Doug himself called, with an apology. Armstrong & Getty weren’t buying it and continued to blast him, as did their callers. KSTE, Sacramento programmer Alan Eisenson says “I don’t know what’s worse – trying to fool your audience with fake callers, or stealing audio from someone else’s show and making it your own. It’s not a coincidence that the most successful talk show hosts are also the most authentic.” Armstrong & Getty are heard on San Francisco’s KNEW, Stockton’s KWSX (1280), and they are based at Sacramento’s KSTE (650).
