Canada's Astral Media reports an 87% jump in radio revenue
Montreal-based Astral Media reported quarterly revenues up 24% and earnings ahead 13% from the same time last year, encompassing TV, radio, and outdoor advertising. Radio revenue growth was up 87% from the same time last year, thanks to their purchase of Standard Radio, Canada’s largest radio broadcaster with 82 radio stations in eight provinces. Astral also flipped stations in Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal to the “Virgin Radio” brand in the last 7 days, joining their successful “Virgin 999” station in Toronto. Astral President & CEO Ian Greenberg says, “We are obviously very pleased with the strength and the resilience of the company’s operating results for the first quarter of Fiscal 2009.”
