CBS soft-launches Washington DC all-newser WNEW-FM (99.1)
The original launch date was last Thursday, January 19 and the revised date was 5am on Monday, January 23. Instead, CBS opened the doors at noon on Sunday (January 22). Already, one factor was helping them: bad weather. The weekend snow and ice storm and the cold temps that followed forced the government to delay opening its D.C.-area offices until 11am. Traffic reporting will be very important to commuters. DCRTV.com reported the Sunday sneak-launch at 99.1, with CBS attacking established rival WTOP (103.5 and various simulcasts). The Washington-Baltimore Board of Radio-Info.com has been monitoring the frequency since CBS announced its plans to challenge WTOP, here. Previous and Next Stories
