CBS to start merging local radio and TV websites.

Newly-named COO of CBS Local Media Anton Guitano says the goal is to make the combined local site “hyperlocal, equivalent to the best local paper with all the local information, and then have links to our assets outside of the local areas such as CBSNews.com and CBSSports.com, etc.” That’s not all, Guitano tells TVNewsCheck. He, new CBS TV group head Peter Dunn and CBS Radio president/CEO Dan Mason will begin touring the markets, with suggestions about how to produce greater cooperation and synergy between TV and radio. Guitano says “radio has done a very good job of selling digital, whereas TV may not have done quite as well.” So “we’re going to try to get some of our radio people to teach the TV people how to sell local digital together.” He believes that television’s success in selling political spots can rub off on radio during joint presentations to the political ad agencies. CBS will be touting its reach, with Guitano saying that in the New York market, CBS radio, TV and digital reach more than 80% of the age 18+ audience.
