Celebrities are getting involved to save Long Island's WLIU-FM

WLIU

Peconic Public Broadcasting, which had bid over $850,000 to buy non-commercial WLIU-FM (88.3) in Southampton, New York, is still about $500,000 short of its full purchase price, and the clock is ticking. If the money isn’t finalized by August 31, they could lose the station, and the trendy Hamptons could lose its local public radio outlet. The New York Daily News reports that celebrities Alec Baldwin and Christie Brinkley, both Hamptons-area seasonal residents, are now involved. Baldwin has made a donation to save the station, according to the newspaper, and Brinkley said a a recent benefit, “We've got to save that radio station. We can’t let our beautiful small-town way of life out here get whittled away from us!”
