Charley Manning is dropped by Boston's WRKO
The Boston Herald reports that news/talk WRKO-AM (680) mid-afternoon host Manning was dropped Thursday by the Entercom station due to "less than stellar ratings." Entercom says " Manning, who is involved in a number of business ventures that keep him working around the clock, is leaving to devote more of his time to those projects." He will be replaced by Herald columnist Michele McPhee starting on Monday. McPhee was formerly the evening host on WRKO's crosstown talk rival WTKK-FM (96.9). Entercom New England VP of AM Programming and Operations Jason Wolfe says "Michele has great contacts locally and nationally, and her experience and understanding of this market will provide for some very compelling programming." Manning had replaced Rush Limbaugh on WRKO, and had been in the mid-afternoon time slot for less than one year. Now McPhee faces Limbaugh, who appears on Clear Channel-owned "Rush Radio 1200" WXKS-AM. The Boston Board of Radio-Info.com sizes up the latest changes in Beantown talk radio here.
