"Chicago Eddie" Schwartz dies at 62

Retired columnist Robert Feder briefly returns to print in the Chicago Sun-Times to write a tribute to Schwartz – “As the king-size king of late-night radio, Eddie was one-of-a-kind character whose passion for Chicago and concern for others were matched only by his oversized girth.” Eddie had worked in Chicago radio over most of four decades, starting as a gofer and then making it (in 1973) to the overnight show at then-WIND and then transferring to Tribune’s WGN (720) for a ten-year run, between 1982-1992. From there he did three years at WLUP. In recent days, Eddie suffered from renal failure. Chicagoans were quick to react to the news of his death, on the message board here.
