Chicago's Steve Dahl to stay with new media, will charge for daily podcast
Dahl's Twitter announcement today at noon Chicago time is that he won't be returning to traditional over-the-air radio, now that he's free to do so under terms of his just-expired deal with CBS. Instead, Dahl will be asking fans for a $9.95 monthly subscription fee for access to his unexpurgated podcast. Dahl was pulled off the air in December 2008 when the combination of a talk-focused morning show didn't mesh with CBS Radio's variety hits "Jack FM" WJMK (104.5). The Chicago Tribune says he has been paid a reported $1 million a year since then, but that contract finally expired last week. The new subscription-based podcast plan begins August 1. The Chicago Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about Dahl's latest plans, here.
