Chicago's Steve Dahl to stay with new media, will charge for daily podcast

steve dahl Dahl's Twitter announcement today at noon Chicago time is that he won't be returning to traditional over-the-air radio, now that he's free to do so under terms of his just-expired deal with CBS. Instead, Dahl will be asking fans for a $9.95 monthly subscription fee for access to his unexpurgated podcast. Dahl was pulled off the air in December 2008 when the combination of a talk-focused morning show didn't mesh with CBS Radio's variety hits "Jack FM" WJMK (104.5). The Chicago Tribune says he has been paid a reported $1 million a year since then, but that contract finally expired last week. The new subscription-based podcast plan begins August 1. The Chicago Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about Dahl's latest plans, here.
