Chicago's WGN to move up to 7th floor, as Tribune leases space to a restaurant

WGN Radio Talk WGN (720) will retain the plaza-level glass-enclosed studio where morning man Jonathon Brandmeier operates from. But TimeOut Chicago's Robert Feder reports that "the rest of the station will relocate to the seventh floor." GM Tom Langmyer's memo to staff says “Our new location in the building will include a fresher and brighter workspace (as the relocated offices, sales area, news department and studios will have windows as well) and the technical operation and new studios will be fully digital, replacing the current analog equipment, much of which has been in service since WGN moved to the Tower 25 years ago." Despite WGN's longtime presence in the famous art-deco Tribune Building, the radio station hasn't always operated from there. Between 1961 and 1986, it originated from the West Bradley Place studios used by WGN television. As for the new restaurant on ground-level, facing Pioneer Court: the lease is with local operator Bottleneck Management Group, which runs four other eateries in Chicago. No announcement yet about the name or concept for the restaurant, expected to open in 2013. The Chicago Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the WGN move, here.
