Cincinnati's "WCIN" call letters are gone after nearly 60 years
It took a year for Alchemy Broadcasting to close on WCIN (1480), but it happened today when the $600,000 deal with American Broadcasting LLC closed. The Alchemy group had been LMAing 1480 since last May and had brought over the oldies format from WDJO, Florence, KY (1160). (1160 is now talk, with new calls of WQRT.) The WDJO call letters will permanently reside at 1480, along with the oldies format. John Kiesewetter at the Cincinnati Enquirer writes on his blog that Cincinnati jock Dusty Rhodes won’t be heard on WDJO for a while: he’s also been serving as the auditor of Hamilton County, and he’ll devote full time to campaigning to keep that position in this year’s elections. Dusty was part of top 40 WSAI (1360) in the 1960s and has been heard in the market 48 years. Broker on the just-completed sale of WCIN/1480: John Pierce & Company. The Cincinnati Board of Radio-Info.com talks about the changeover to “WDJO”.
