Citadel sues Tulsa operator Renda Broadcasting over its use of "Bob FM"
Citadel claims ownership of the trademark for "Bob" in the state of Oklahoma and also operates its own Bob FM in Oklahoma City (KQOB at 96.9). In July, Citadel served Pittsburgh-based Renda with a cease-and-desist letter and followed that up with a warning of potential legal action. Last Friday (November 19), Citadel Broadcasting actually filed suit in U.S. District Court for Western Oklahoma. Among its exhibits are certificates of trademark registration for "Bob FM" and "Turn your knob to Bob" from 2003, and a coverage map showing overlap between the signals of Citadel's "Bob 96.9" in Oklahoma City and Renda's "Bob 92.9" KBEZ in Tulsa. Citadel alleges unfair competition and infringement of its variety hits "Bob" trademark. The Oklahoma Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the "Bob" franchise, here.
