Clear Channel has trouble getting its new translator going in Minneapolis

It has taken over operation of a translator at 103.7 named K279AZ, but it hasn’t yet been able the move the antenna to the downtown IDS Center. Northpine.com says it “couldn’t reach an agreement with the owners of the shared antenna it originally planned to use.” It has starting using the translator to repeat its adult alternative "Cities 97” KTCZ, although it had earlier said it would be simulcasting talk KTLK-FM (100.3) as a fill-in. Locals suspect the true permanent format of 103.7 has yet to be revealed, and that Clear Channel might simulcast its all-sports AM, K-Fan KFAN (1130). The acquisition of the translator in the Twin Cities is unusual for Clear Channel. It bought the signal from “K-Love” originator Educational Media Foundation, and in return gave EMF the right to program the HD-2 channel of its WMXD, Detroit (92.3). That should enable EMF to more efficiently feed some of its own translators around Detroit.
