Clear Channel is subpoenaed for info in an Upstate NY investigation
Clear Channel is not a target this time, but a possible victim. The subpoena came from New York state Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo regarding the annual New York State Fair. Cuomo is “investigating patronage, cronyism and waste of taxpayer money at the fair,” according to a report by Bloomberg News. It states that Clear Channel is not a target of the probe, but may have information pertinent to the investigation. A state report outlines alleged mismanagement of the fair’s operations by its former director, and further alleges “squandering” of funds as well as placing friends and relatives on the payroll. Cuomo is investigating one alleged incident where the fair’s former director held a wedding reception for his daughter in 2004 on the fairgrounds, scheduled on the same day that a Clear Channel radio station was to hold an annual country music concert. The concert, apparently the one scheduled by alleged to be WBBS-FM (104.7), was canceled and subsequently moved.
