Comcast to carry two new African-American- & two Hispanic-targeted nets

Comcast, the nation’s largest cable provider, will distribute four new TV networks launched by minority owners—part of a pledge the company made during efforts to win government approval for its controlling stake in NBC Universal. The four are: Aspire, spearheaded by NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, to launch this summer; Revolt, partnering Sean "Diddy" Combs and MTV veteran Andy Schuon, to launch in 2013; El Rey, proposed by Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures execs, to launch in 2014; and BabyFirst Americas, proposed by Spanish-language TV veteran Constantino “Said” Schwarz, launching this April. Overall, Comcast says it will launch ten new independent channels over the next eight years, including eight O&Os by Hispanics and African-Americans. Among the four new networks, targets are: African American families; younger audiences with music and pop culture; children’s education; and programming aimed at Latinos and general audiences.
