Congressman claims Glenn Beck was "shilling" for a gold company
A newly-released report by New York City Democratic Congressman Anthony D. Weiner claims precious metals dealer Goldline International is overcharging for the gold coins it sells, and is using the deceptive practice of paying some conservative talk show hosts to use fear in order to push its product. Weiner makes a number of serious allegations against Goldline by claiming they “Grossly Overcharge For Their Coins,” in one case by as much as 208%, and “Formed An Unholy Alliance with Conservative Pundits to Drive a False Narrative.” Weiner alleges that Beck “will often promote the purchase of gold as the only safe investment alternative for consumers who want to safeguard their livelihoods. When the show then cuts to commercial break, viewers are treated to an advertisement from Goldline.” Weiner claims conservatives “Fred Thompson, Dennis Miller, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Lars Larson, Michael Smerconish, Monica Crowley and Mike Huckabee are all paid spokespeople for Goldline.” He acknowledges Beck is no longer on the payroll because that “violated Fox News rules.” Read Weiner’s report, courtesy of Politico, here. Beck teed off on Weiner’s report, claiming it was “another arm of this administration coming out to try to shut me down,” according to Politico.
