Could a performance royalty for radio be a reality?
A report in the Tennessean says the performance royalty “is very doable”, according the Nashville-based House member Jim Cooper. This morning’s Taylor on Radio-Info reports that because of this, the NAB is hiring nine outside Washington lobbyists, to “kill H.R. 848.” The Tennessean story reports “the hostilities have escalated in recent weeks,” and quotes Cooper as saying “our songwriters and performers are being ripped off every day,” and “the fierceness of the broadcasters’ response is our biggest compliment…momentum is on our side.” The NAB has lined up more than 230 House members on a resolution opposing any new fee, royalty or tax – enough, it says, to spike H.R. 848.
