Cox-Birmingham confirms the launch of a new sports FM; would welcome Finebaum
While a Birmingham federal judge considers how much of Paul Finebaum's breach of contract suit against Citadel to make public, Cox confirms market rumors about its intentions to create a challenger to Citadel's all-sports WJOX-AM/FM (960/94.5). It would be called "The Zone", and would replace country "97.3 The Buck" WNCB (97.3). As for Paul Finebaum, Cox market manager David Dubose tells the Birmingham News "If his situation clears up legally, I guess we would be interested in talking to him." The cast of the new Zonewould includeAlabama radio play-by-play announcer Eli Gold and Auburn color analyst Stan White, and former WJHOX personality Matt Coulter, says the News. The Alabama Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the fast-developing situation, here.
