Cumulus' Rock 100.5/Atlanta segues current, classic, current, classic...
Cumulus Media seems to be having a tough time deciding how its audience wants to rock. The company's WNNX (Rock 100.5) Atlanta has been experimenting with more currents on weekends, while adding two songs an hour to its talk-centric morning drive “Regular Guys” show. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s “Radio & TV Talk” columnist Rodney Ho reports that last weekend, songs from the past three years comprised 30% of the station’s music, up from 10% Friday, January 27. Rock 100.5 has been gradually upping the percentage of new music in its mix since November, Ho says: "The average year of the station’s playlist on October 15, 2011 was 1979. By Friday, it was 1990. On Sunday, it was 1996. A Facebook poll the station posted Sunday morning, meanwhile, asked if folks were 'digging the music.' Only 12 said yes, while 115 said no. The station seems to be paying attention." Ho adds that by Monday, January 30, the station had gone back to two current songs an hour and on Tuesday, seems to have retreated back in time, focusing on classic rock. “Now I'm just mighty confused,” Ho wrote. Rock 100.5 stands in fifth place among rock outlets in Atlanta. Join the discussion about the Regular Guys on the Radio-Info.com Atlanta board here.Previous and Next Stories
