Dave Maynard, Boston radio/TV personality for five decades, dies at 82

Dave Maynard Maynard started as a Top 40 jock on Boston's WHIL and WORL, then came to Group W's 50,000-watt WBZ (1030). He handled the all-night shift doing talk, then succeeded Carl deSuze in mornings. For 11 years, "Maynard in the Morning" was rated #1 in the Boston market. In 1990 Dave moved to middays and the following year he retired from the business. As the CBS Local site says, December 1, 1983 was proclaimed "Dave Maynard Day" by Boston Mayor Kevin White, in honor of his 25 years at WBZ. For 21 years, Maynard was also the host of WBZ-TV's "Community Auditions" talent show. His charity work was renowned, especially in support of Children's Hospital. The Emerson and Boston University grad taught in the communications department at BU for 17 years. The Boston Board of Radio-Info.com has plenty of memories about Dave Maynard, here.
