Does Sirius XM really need Howard Stern?
A poll conducted by the financial website “TheStreet.com” shows Sirius XM may do just fine without the “King of All Media.” The online poll says 55% believe the satellite radio operator would do just fine without him, while 45% believe he is the face of Sirius XM. Stern’s 5-year / $500 million deal with Sirius XM, which gave the company instant credibility, will expire at the end of this year. It’s unclear whether Stern will accept less to re-sign, or if Sirius XM will pay more, or instead use that money to bring in a number of media stars. Clear Channel has also appeared on the radar as a possible Stern suitor, but that would also force Stern to face the same FCC rules and potential fines, that sent him to satellite radio.
