Eddie Fingers is back at Cincinnati's talk WLW (700), part of a daytime shakeup
The shakeup unfortunately puts late morning personality Doc Thompson on the street. The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Kiesewetter says Thompson "was terminated last week while on his honeymoon." The Cincinnati Board of Radio-Info.com adds that Thompson had moved from Richmond to Cincinnati for the job at WLW, and that his girlfriend also moved and had gotten a job at WHIO-TV in Dayton. They just bought a house. As of Sunday evening, Doc's wedding photos were still on the WLW site, which still shows him doing 9am-noon. Those same photos are on the site at Clear Channel's talk WRVA, Richmond (1140), where Doc has been doing a show just for WRVA in the 3-6pm slot.
Here's the story with Eddie Fingers: he worked at the Clear Channel cluster for 30 years, first at rock WEBN (102.7) and more recently at "Big One" WLW. He was out in the Fall of 2010 following a showdown over pay. The Enquirer says that just before Christmas, WLW ops manager Scott Reinhart ("Eddie's old boss at WEBN"), reached out to Fingers about the possibility of a return. That led to a deal last Friday, and a re-pairing with Tracy Jones in afternoons. Fingers tells the Enquirer "I'm stoked."
Fingers' re-hiring positions Scott Sloan for a second stint in late mornings, bumping Doc Thompson. In mid-2010, Sloan was doing that shift before Mike McConnell left Cincinnati for Tribune's WGN, Chicago (720). Since then, he has been co-hosting PM drive with Tracy Jones. The Cincinnati Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the complicated state of affairs at WLW, here.
