Edison Research says country radio mustn't fall behind, online
Edison VP Tom Webster told Friday’s Country Radio Seminar in Nashville that radio needs to catch up with its listeners – because 62% of the 13,000 country listeners surveyed in an online poll have a profile on at least one of the social networking sites. 42% are on Facebook, and almost as many are on MySpace. Meanwhile, there’s some good news: Country listeners generally think their stations are doing a good job with their station websites, and Webster reports that radio is well-positioned to supply the most-requested information, such as upcoming concerts. 77% of the 13,000 respondents say they’re listening more to country music on the radio than they did last year. They also think country music makes a positive contribution to life in America. 57% of those who had an opinion on the subject were “strongly agreeing.”
