England's Sun newspaper pulls the plug on its internet Sun Talk Radio
It has been a week Jon Gaunt would love to forget. Earlier this week, the lone host for Sun Talk lost his legal battle with U.K. broadcast regulator OFCOM, after a court ruled OFCOM was right to censure Gaunt for calling a politician a “Nazi” while Gaunt was employed by TalkSPORT. Just days later, his Internet radio station closed down. The Sun newspaper has unexpectedly shut down Sun Talk, placing a message on the website saying “SunTalk is no longer live … Thank you for listening over the last 18 months. Please continue to enjoy our podcasts.” The Guardian Newspaper says costs were a factor, as the Sun newspaper decided against taking the station onto a digital platform. Sun Talk started a year ago with Gaunt, along with two freelance workers airing a daily Internet show. The station aired weekdays for three hours daily. The closure of Sun Talk comes at a time when parent company News International is cutting costs.
