Entercom blows up another FM to simulcast AM talk – this time Buffalo's "Lake"
On March 30 in Kansas City, Entercom shelved soft AC KUDL (98.1) and put it into a simulcast with news/talk KMBZ-AM (980). Today Entercom announces that Buffalo's classic rock "107.7 The Lake" WLKK goes into a simulcast with "Voice of Buffalo" WBEN (930) at midnight Tuesday evening, April 5. WBEN operations manager Tim Wenger says "While Buffalo is a strong AM market and WBEN is a ratings leader, the addition of the FM simulcast will make the WBEN brand more readily available to a vast majority of the listening public who spend time on the FM band." The current WBEN lineup remains in place, including "Buffalo's Early News" and local personality Sandy Beach. While the "Lake" classic rock service is assigned to the HD-2 channel of WLKK, Wethersfield Township (107.7). The Buffalo Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the strategy, and whether WBEN-AM was the best beneficiary of the FM signal.
