Entravision reports radio revenue flat for the first quarter
Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa tells his conference call the core business of the large, mostly Spanish-language radio division continues to grow. The difference between first quarter of this year and last year was due to three categories of "non-returning revenue": The 2010 World Cup of soccer, the political ad dollars Entravision harvested last year ahead of the November election, and the ad buys of the U.S. Census. They were mostly why Entravision's local business was up 5%, but its national business fell 14%. Overall, radio revenues for the first quarter of 2011 were flat at $13,376,000, while operating expenses rose 3%. In an encouraging sign for radio, Ulloa says automotive advertising grew about 20% for the quarter, mostly because of regional and local dealer groups (and not "factory dollars"). Entravision is focused in new business, and Ulloa named some of the 30 new advertisers who spent more than $10,000 in the first quarter. Another change earlier this year: Entravision bought out its partner, Lotus Communications, in national rep firm LER. Previous and Next Stories
