"EPG" - Electronic Programming Guide - is "a viable option for U.S. radio"

Test results are back from Boston, Providence and Worcester in Phase 2 of an EPG study funded by the NAB’s FastRoad initiative. And the verdict is that it would work, after research involving broadcasters, manufacturers and developers. It was carried out by BIA/Kelsey, Broadcast Signal Lab and Unique Interactive. The proposed ecosystem for “EPG” would use delivery methods such as HD Radio and (to mobile devices) Internet delivery to mobile devices. Phase I of the FastRoad project was assembling the requirements and architecture. Phase 2 was an actual field test and David Maxson of Broadcast Signal Labs cays “the trials were a fantastic learning experience.” Unique Interactive’s Adrian Cross says it’s “clear that such a service is both possible and extremely valuable to audiences, broadcasters and manufacturers alike.” BIA/Kelsey’s Rick Ducey says “thanks” to all the parties who cooperated on the testing. The press release also has a link to the Phase 2 Final Report, and it’s here.
