FCC takes its Media Ownership Workshop on the road to Tampa
“Cross-ownership” is the theme of the agency’s next Media Ownership Workshop, in Tampa on April 20. One reason it may have chosen Tampa is that one of its two competing daily newspapers is owned by the non-profit Poynter Institute. The FCC is exploring options for ownership of the creators of journalism such as daily papers. Its 2010 Quadrennial Review of media ownership includes re-examination of newspaper-broadcast and TV-radio cross-ownership rules. They have remained unchanged despite an earlier Chairman’s attempt to loosen them up. The Tampa workshop starts in mid-afternoon at 3pm and runs into the evening. More about the Media Ownership session is on the FCC website.
